BQK Tax Flash – JobMaker – First Claim Period Closes Soon

A reminder to our clients, who are eligible for the JobMaker Hiring Credit (“JobMaker”), that the first claim period closes next Friday, 30 April and must be reported through STP software by next Tuesday, 27 April.

Broadly speaking JobMaker may be available if clients have employed new staff who had previously been receiving some form of government benefit including JobSeeker, Parenting Payment or Youth Allowance.

The first claim period runs from 7 October 2020 to 6 January 2021 and can be claimed from 1 February 2021 to 30 April 2021.

Clients should review the eligibility criteria as outlined by the ATO https://www.ato.gov.au/general/JobMaker-Hiring-Credit/Employers/Eligible-employers/

Clients will then need to check that they have hired eligible employees as outlined by the ATO https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobMaker-Hiring-Credit/Employers/Your-eligible-employees/

Finally clients will then need to ensure they have met the conditions to prove they are creating new employment opportunities by demonstrating they have had an increase in headcount and payroll as outlined by the ATO https://www.ato.gov.au/General/JobMaker-Hiring-Credit/In-detail/Conditions-for-making-a-JobMaker-Hiring-Credit-claim/
