Businesses and organisations have been urged to take immediate action on planned domain name changes to prevent the possibility of their corporate identity being stolen and their contacts being scammed.
The auDA (.au Domain Administration) recently announced a new domain namespace “.au”.
Instead of ending with .com.au, .net.au, etc. your business can register the shorter .au name.
Example of what a .au domain would look like: bqk.au – essentially it will be your existing domain name without the .com at the end.
Please note that this is not required, but it is recommended you investigate securing your domain name with your service provider. It prevents cybercriminals from registering a .au domain name and using it to impersonate your business. If you currently own one or more .com.au domains you have priority to purchase the .au equivalent until 20/09/2022. After this date it becomes open to the public to register the .au domain name.
