WA Payroll Tax – JobKeeper Exemption

WA Payroll Tax – Reminder that JobKeeper Subsidised are Wages Exempt

A reminder to our clients who are required to pay WA payroll tax that JobKeeper subsidised wages are exempt.

This is in addition to the waiver of WA payroll tax for the four months between 1 March and 30 June 2020 (for businesses with payroll of less than $7.5 million).

This means if your business has received JobKeeper from 1 July 2020 onwards, the amount of the JobKeeper subsidy received should be deducted from the Taxable Wages shown on your monthly Payroll Tax Return.

We suggest this be entered as “Exempt – Other”, similar to the treatment used to remove Taxable Wages for the period 1 March and 30 June 2020.
